In the presence of Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Tarek El Molla, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Resources, Mohamed Shaker, met Francois D’Elzius, Belgium Ambassador to Egypt, and the representatives of Belgian DEME Group, to discuss the steps taken in the green hydrogen production direction and to enhance cooperation between Egypt and Belgium

At the beginning of the meeting, Shaker praised the outstanding cooperation between Egypt and Belgium in various electricity-related fields, highlighting Egypt’s keenness to benefit from the Belgian expertise in the green hydrogen field in light of the intent agreement signed between the companies affiliated to the petroleum and electricity ministries and Abu Qir Company with DEME Group.

Shaker also urged the quick implementation of a trial project for green hydrogen production in Egypt to expand this field.

For his part, El Molla praised the efforts of DEME to start taking serious steps toward green hydrogen production, stressing these steps are in line with the Egyptian strategy to be a regional hub for energy.

In the same context, D’Elzius affirmed the Belgian government’s aspiration to strengthen cooperation with Egypt to achieve its targets and to use green hydrogen.

It is worth noting that a ministerial committee is currently working at the national level to study hydrogen as an energy source in Egypt in the near future and to search for all possible alternatives to generate and use hydrogen. Moreover, Egypt’s energy strategy 2035 will be updated to include green hydrogen as an energy source.
