Brussels–Today, ENTSOG launched its comprehensive EU-wide database for current and planned low-carbon and renewable hydrogen projects. The platform is based on open-source data and provides an extensive overview of hydrogen projects along the gas value chain – from production, via transmission, distribution and storage to end-use.
The platform was developed by ENTSOG, together with its Members, on the basis of information collected within the prime movers group ‘Gas Quality and Hydrogen Handling’ supplemented by publicly available sources. The aim is to present the latest available hydrogen projects in an interactive map that could be used by all stakeholders and policy makers. The EU Hydrogen Strategy and the upcoming European Commission Hydrogen and Gas Market Decarbonisation legislative package focus on hydrogen as an essential energy carrier to support the EU’s commitment to reach carbon neutrality by 2050. Ongoing discussions are required on how to scale up and kick-start the hydrogen market.
Jan Ingwersen, ENTSOG General Director, commented “ENTSOG sees the benefit to provide stakeholders with the best available data on the geographic location of these important projects, in an easily accessible format – I believe the Hydrogen Project Visualisation Platform contributes to that objective. It also has the potential to identify where the first hydrogen clusters of production and consumption could emerge and how they can be connected via retrofitted and repurposed pipelines, as well as large-scaleintegrated hydrogen projects.”
