foresight group supports 100mw green hydrogen project in germany

Foresight Group, through its managed funds, is backing a 100MW green hydrogen initiative in Borna, Germany. The project, which is being developed by Foresight-managed funds, HH2E, and HydrogenOne Capital Growth, will initially produce around 6,000 tons of hydrogen annually. Plans are underway to extend the plant’s capacity to over 1GW, which would result in an annual hydrogen production of more than 60,000 tons.

The Borna facility will also include high-capacity battery storage and will be operated by HH2E under the newly established HH2E Werk Theirbach. The plant will cater to green hydrogen customers including companies in the mobility sector, large energy consumers, industrial consumers, and entities within the chemicals, commercial air, and haulage industries.

Investors into HH2E include JLEN, a listed investment fund with a diversified portfolio of environmental infrastructure assets, and FEIP, a sustainability-focused €851.4m private Limited Partnership fund that invests in infrastructure required to create advanced decarbonised energy systems.

Joe Davis, Associate Director at Foresight Group, lauded the pivotal role green hydrogen can play in the energy transition and commended the forward-thinking approach of the HH2E team. Andreas Schierenbeck, co-founder and board member of HH2E, noted that the technology blend developed by HH2E leverages the volatility of renewable energy production by pairing an alkaline electrolyser with a high-capacity battery to ensure a constant, cost-effective green hydrogen supply.
