government allocates 4 billion euros to the production of low carbon hydrogen

In a visionary stride towards the hydrogen-powered future, the French government has unveiled a formidable commitment of €4 billion to accelerate the growth of low-carbon hydrogen production.

Le Figaro reported that the French government is poised to allocate a staggering €4 billion ($4.3 billion) between 2024 and 2026 for contracts-for-difference (CfDs) geared towards bolstering the production of low-carbon hydrogen

“Our energy transition plan aims to massively accelerate the production of low-carbon energies on the territory: nuclear, renewable energies and hydrogen. This is also true for the storage and use of carbon dioxide. The roadmap was set in 2020. From now on, we are rolling out with Roland Lescure, the Minister of Industry”, explains to Figaro Agnès Pannier-Runacher , the Minister of Energy Transition. The production of low-carbon hydrogen is one of the cornerstones of the decarbonization of the industry.

Calls for projects will be launched to allocate green (or low-carbon) hydrogen production capacity in France. Several tranches will be spread out between 2024, 2025 and 2026, respectively…

This resounding declaration echoes the nation’s resolute pursuit of sustainable energy solutions and marks a pivotal step in achieving ambitious climate targets.

This strategic investment is unveiled as part of the government’s extensive framework for the advancement of low-carbon hydrogen production, and it beckons forth a promising dawn for the hydrogen landscape. At its core, this initiative seeks to harness the power of hydrogen, an element synonymous with clean energy potential, to propel the nation towards a greener and more sustainable future.

The focal point of this undertaking lies in the emphasis on calls for projects that propel the creation of a burgeoning network of low-carbon hydrogen production. The French government envisions this roadmap as an intricate tapestry woven with innovation and ingenuity, paving the way for the establishment of robust hydrogen infrastructure.

The realization of this vision is underscored by France’s commitment to deploying 6.5 GW of electrolysis power by 2030, carving a remarkable path towards the realization of a hydrogen-based economy. As the energy landscape undergoes a transformative shift, the potential of hydrogen as a catalyst for decarbonization emerges with renewed vigor.

The government’s resolute stance on ushering in a hydrogen revolution is amplified by the remarkable lineup of industry leaders and experts who have rallied behind this initiative. This remarkable consortium includes prominent entities such as Hysata, Valorem, Valeco, Lhyfe, Arhyze, and BayWa Re. Together, they form the foundation of the Renewable Hydrogen Union (UNHYR), a collective force dedicated to the advancement of renewable and local hydrogen solutions.

This unprecedented commitment is projected to ignite a staggering cascade of opportunities, with the potential to generate up to 100,000 jobs and create an economic value of up to six billion euros, dispersed across regions where the hydrogen value chain finds its home.
