SHANGHAI — Recently, the fleet of hydrogen energy trucks of DHL Express in China was officially put into operation. The fleet consists of 8 hydrogen energy trucks.
After operation, the total monthly operating mileage will exceed 20,000 kilometers, and it is expected to reduce carbon emissions by more than 170 tons per year.
Xu Debin, Director of Ground Operations of DHL Express China, said: “We have always been actively promoting the decarbonization process through the diversification of alternative energy sources. The official commissioning of the hydrogen energy truck fleet is another milestone in our process of promoting clean energy for DHL Express China operations. .At present, the proportion of electrified delivery fleets in China has reached 23%, and we are committed to increasing this proportion to 60% by 2030, and strive to achieve the goal of 30% of the proportion of green fuel long-distance trucks.”
Compared with traditional fuel vehicles, hydrogen fuel cells have high power and energy density, and have obvious advantages in terms of large load, long battery life and high strength. The hydrogen energy heavy-duty truck put into operation this time is a hydrogen fuel cell van provided by Shanghai Hydrogenda, a subsidiary of Shanghai Hydrogen Energy Technology Co., Ltd., with a standard load of 6.8 tons and a cruising range of 350 kilometers under comprehensive conditions. DHL’s North Asia hub at Pudong International Airport provides logistics cargo transportation to and from service centers in Qingpu District and Jinqiao Development Zone.
In September last year, DHL Express China conducted a one-month verification test on the first hydrogen energy truck and was successful, followed by another seven months of trial operation. During the trial operation, the mileage of the vehicle exceeded 21,000 kilometers, and the cumulative reduction of carbon emissions was more than ten tons. The overall operation of the vehicle was stable, and the phased goal was successfully achieved.
In November 2021, DHL Express China signed a five-year “Strategic Cooperation Agreement on the Application of Hydrogen Energy Logistics Vehicles and Hydrogen Supply” with Shanghai Hydrogen Energy Technology Co., Ltd. and Shanghai Pujiang Special Gas Co., Ltd., marking the The hydrogen energy vehicle development strategy has entered the practical stage.
