Fuel Cells Works, Gen2 Energy Granted Enova Support for Hydrogen Project in Mosjøen

Gen2 Energy was one of 15 hydrogen projects that will receive NOK 1 million each in support from Enova to study the possibility of producing hydrogen from renewable energy for use in the maritime sector.

“It is a pleasure to inform that your project was one of the 15 that were ranked highest, and thus will receive support through the program, says Sigmund Størset, Senior Advicer in Enova.

Gen2 Energy is part of a project consortium in Mosjøen, together Alcoa Mosjøen, Helgeland Havn, Helgeland Kraft and Vefsn municipality represented with Mosjøen og omegn næringsselskap (MON KF). The overall target for the project is to build a national hydrogen hub in Mosjøen.

“We are very pleased with being one of the top 15 projects that receive grant from Enova, says Jonas Meyer, CEO in Gen2 Energy. The support from Enova underlines the quality of our project, and we look forward continuing our work with partners to develop a green hydrogen hub in Mosjøen.

As a first step, the pilot project will study aspects related to a future demonstration and piloting of hydrogen technology related to the end-user both in the maritime sector and in industry and will be important to mature the project towards a possible main project.

“The pre-project support will give the players time to work with the market basis as well as study technical and financial solutions that make green hydrogen available in the maritime sector, says Nils Kristian Nakstad, CEO in Enova. He emphasizes the importance of Norway establishing a hub for hydrogen production along the coast.

The pilot projects will contribute to the development of hubs for hydrogen production along the Norwegian coast. Later this year, Enova will announce a major competition for investment support for such hubs.

Through the pre-project, significant elements in the development and construction of a hub for green hydrogen in Mosjøen will be investigated and clarified. The purpose of the pre-project is to clarify the possibilities associated with establishing hydrogen as an energy alternative to maritime transport, in the first instance related to the activity that takes place at Port of Helgeland.

In total, Enova received 29 applications for the call, of which 15 reached the competition for funds.
