Grimma MOU

Grimma–Gruma Automobile GmbH (Gruma), FAUN Viatec GmbH (Faun), VNG AG, Grimma and Leipziger Land signed a Memorandum of Understanding at the Grimma City Council meeting to prepare a joint pilot project in the field of hydrogen mobility.

This will include hydrogen electrolysis for the production of hydrogen from renewable electricity (“power-to-gas”) and a hydrogen filling station for refueling of trucks and commercial vehicles at the Grimma site.

“As VNG, we would be delighted if we could make a contribution to shaping the energy transition and thus shaping structural change with the future technology of power-to-gas in the Central German region. Together with our partners, we want to create an innovative total power-to-gas system and thus gather the first concrete experience in dealing with green hydrogen, “said Hans-Joachim Polk, VNG board member for Infrastructure / Technology.

As a location of the gas station could serve the grounds of the Gruma on the A14. The required hydrogen is to be produced by an electrolyzer directly on site or on the site of the biogas plant of the VNG subsidiary Balance VNG Bioenergy GmbH in Grimma (Wasserwerksweg 8 in 04668 Grimma). This makes it possible to use the good transport infrastructure and the existing biogas infrastructure of VNG.

On the basis of the agreement that was signed yesterday, the project partners will now intensify their cooperation for further project preparation and design, thereby contributing their respective competencies in the energy sector as well as in heavy goods vehicle and commercial vehicle traffic. The first goal of the partners is to create a detailed project description by the end of September 2019. On this basis, the concrete implementation of the project should then be decided. However, the realization of the project idea will only be possible if funding for the project can also be obtained .

Matthias Berger, Mayor of Grimma, emphasized, “I would be very pleased if our cooperation between Stadt, Land, VNG, Gruma and FAUN in the intended cycle of generation to consumption and production of fuel cell vehicles here in Grimma by the creation of many jobs sustainable works for the region. The fact that we also do a lot of good for our environment and the future through the subject of hydrogen fuel cell will of course make things even more interesting for us. ”
