H3 Dynamics, based in Toulouse, France, and Kite Magnetics, headquartered in Melbourne, Australia, have declared a strategic partnership aimed at driving innovation in the aviation industry. The collaboration’s focal point is the optimization of a novel 150kW hydrogen-electric propulsion nacelle system.
A New Chapter in Aviation
On June 20, 2023, at the Paris Air Show, the partnership was announced, signaling a significant leap towards distributed hydrogen-electric propulsion systems in aviation. The main objective is to support aircraft manufacturers in their transition to new technologies, speeding up the development of advanced aero-compliant systems.
Harnessing Kite Magnetics’ Aeroperm™
Earlier this year, Kite Magnetics revealed its air-cooled 120kW electric motor, which utilizes a unique magnetic material known as Aeroperm™. This advanced motor showcases exceptional performance and lightweight characteristics, pushing the boundaries of conventional technologies in terms of efficiency.
H3 Dynamics’ Pioneering Nacelle-Based System
For almost two decades, H3 Dynamics has been at the forefront of hydrogen-electric powered flight research. The company has been diligently developing a nacelle-based hydrogen-electric power system in Toulouse. This revolutionary solution provides long-endurance power during flights, bolstering system safety, aircraft control, and simplifying maintenance and repair operations.
A Joint Venture Towards Sustainable Aviation
Over the coming months, H3 Dynamics and Kite Magnetics aim to assemble a full-scale system and perform dedicated aeronautical tests in conjunction with aircraft manufacturers. These endeavors will lay the foundation for obtaining flight permissions and facilitating market entry.
