A regionally-led eco-friendly energy city will be created by establishing distributed power sources through renewable energy such as fuel cells and solar power in Gangdong-gu, Seoul.

The Korea Energy Agency (Chairman Chang-seop Kim) signed an MOU for the creation of an eco-friendly smart energy city in Gangdong-gu with Synergy, Gangdong-gu Office, and Korea East-West Power on the 17th at Lotte Hotel World in Seoul.

The ‘Gangdong-gu Eco-friendly Smart Energy City Creation Project’ is a project promoted as one of the ‘2021 regional new energy industry revitalization support projects’ carried out by the Korea Energy Agency under the supervision of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

This project is to build a distributed power source of new and renewable energy such as fuel cells, solar power, and energy storage system (ESS) in Gangdong-gu, Seoul, and improve energy efficiency and demand response DR in the public sector to supply eco-friendly energy and improve energy use efficiency.

This is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 2 million tons per year, create jobs for a total of 356 people, and generate revenue of KRW 33 billion.
In particular, a portion of the profits from the project will be used for the welfare of the Gangdong-gu community and residents.

According to, Horizon Fuel Cell Korea Co., Ltd, the official Korean sales office of Horizon Fuel Cell, is a Korean office representing the Horizon group, and signed the contract on October 25, 2021 and concluded the contract. HGP (hereinafter referred to as Hydrogen Power Co., Ltd), a subsidiary of CNERGY, plans to enter the Korean MW market through bipartisan cooperation with Horizon Fuel Cell through an official contract.

HGP is preparing to order 3MW + 3MW as an extension of the project in 2022, and Horizon is planning to successfully install and test-run the VL-1500kW system within October 2022.

Korea has pledged to convert about 15GW of renewable energy generation by 2040, and Horizon plans to provide a successful fuel cell power plant service through the VL-1500kW system.
