  • Howden has been selected to deliver a hydrogen compression solution for Everfuel’s green hydrogen production facility, HySynergy, in Fredericia, Denmark.

Everfuel owns and operates green hydrogen production and distribution infrastructure, and partners with vehicle manufacturers, to connect to the entire hydrogen value chain, providing hydrogen fuel to enterprise customers under long-term contracts.

HySynergy supports the European Union’s Hydrogen Strategy and its ambition to install at least six gigawatts (GW) of renewable hydrogen electrolysers in the EU by 2024 and at least 40 GW by 2030.

The HySynergy facility will have a production capacity of up to 8 tons per day of green hydrogen, made from renewable wind power, with 10 tons of storage capacity. The Howden compression solution engineered to serve this specific application is a perfect fit with the hydrogen production provided by Nel electrolysers (ordered by Everfuel in December 2020). The reliability, efficiency and safety delivered by Howden’s compression solution enables Everfuel’s goal to provide Denmark with green hydrogen in a safe and controlled manner.

Ross B Shuster, CEO of Howden said, “This cooperation with Everfuel demonstrates Howden’s capabilities in developing and delivering technology solutions to support our customers’ vital processes which in turn contribute to a more sustainable world. Through close cooperation with Everfuel and Nel, who are innovators in the development of green hydrogen infrastructure, we provided a compression solution which seamlessly integrated into Everfuel’s hydrogen production infrastructure, helping to provide a competitive and sustainable alternative to other more carbon intensive energy sources.”

“Connecting renewable energy production and electrolysis with transmission and distribution based on Howden’s compression is a key step for us. We are delighted to have now selected the best possible partner based on their long-term experience and outstanding engineering to contribute to making our ambition safe and realistic to support zero-emission mobility through an unparalleled approach,” says Jacob Krogsgaard, CEO of Everfuel.
