Howden Selected to Supply Compressors for Major Hydrogen Project in Shanghai

Howden has been chosen by a large industrial gas company to deliver hydrogen compression solutions for an upcoming project set to become one of Shanghai’s largest hydrogen tube trailer filling stations.

The project, spearheaded by a significant industrial gas customer in collaboration with Shenneng Nanchang Energy Development Co. Ltd and Chemical Industry District Investment Co. Ltd, seeks to fast-track the implementation of hydrogen energy in Shanghai and the Yangtze River Delta region.

Part of a larger initiative, the project involves the development of extensive hydrogen facilities that will initially harness low-carbon hydrogen from the Shanghai Chemical Industrial Zone. The second phase will see the construction of a hydrogen liquefaction plant, paving the way for a potential synergy liquefaction partnership as a result of this customer relationship with Howden.

In 2021 Howden supplied compressors for world’s largest hydrogen refuelling station for the Beijing Daxing HRS.

Howden’s hydrogen diaphragm compressor packages were supplied at the refuelling station and Howden’s strong brand reputation, high product quality, reliability and technological strength in the hydrogen market were key to the successful contract.

The Daxing HRS has the capacity to produce 4.8 tonnes per day of hydrogen and refuel up to 600 hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, including large vehicles such as trucks and buses. The Daxing HRS is part of the 200,000 square-meter Beijing International Hydrogen Energy Demonstration Zone.
