  • LANDI Zofingen builds the first green hydrogen AGROLA service station.
  • Ground breaking ceremony held this week in Zofingen (AG).
  • Hydrogen produced from renewable energies contributes to the decarbonisation of transport and thus supports the sustainable development strategy of fenaco cooperative society.

The ground breaking ceremony of AGROLA’s first hydrogen filling station was held on 2 September 2019 in Zofingen (AG). The construction of the service station is financed by LANDI Sursee (as an investor) and LANDI Zofingen (as operator of the service station). The opening of the new facility is scheduled for spring 2020.

The commissioning of this first AGROLA hydrogen fuel station will expand the mobility offer by using renewable energies that do not generate CO 2 emissions . “AGROLA’s proven network of service stations covering all of AGROLA’s rural areas will be complemented by the hydrogen power source, so that fuel cell powered electric vehicles can also be in the future, “explains Daniel Bischof, CEO of AGROLA AG.

Mobility based on sustainably produced green hydrogen brings many benefits: it contributes to the achievement of climate goals related to road transport and the implementation of the Confederation’s Energy Strategy 2050. Service stations play an increasingly important role in the use and widespread use of renewable energies in mobility. They constitute an important link in the supply chain for the introduction of renewable energies, such as green hydrogen, into mobility. By building more hydrogen filling stations, AGROLA aims in the long term to contribute actively to the security of supply of hydrogen vehicles.

AGROLA focuses on the two forms of electric propulsion: electric mobility enabled by solar energy and green mobility with hydrogen. With regard to electric mobility, energy from the battery is used to run an electric motor; on vehicles running on the contrary hydrogen, it is converted into electricity using a fuel cell to operate the electric motor. These two forms of electric mobility generate no harmful emissions.

fenaco and AGROLA promote hydrogen mobility

Like AGROLA, fenaco is a member of the H2 Mobility Association, which promotes the use of hydrogen in transport. This association was founded in May 2018 by seven leading Swiss companies. Their common goal is to set up a network of hydrogen filling stations covering the whole of Switzerland. They thus bring together the necessary conditions so that vehicles can one day no longer generate CO 2 emissions , a step that paves the way for sustainable mobility in Switzerland. This implementation is expected to materialize in the next five years through company-specific vehicle fleets and a private business model.
