E-Mobility Cluster Regensburg establishes research and development network “New Technologies with Hydrogen and Fuel Cells”.

Regensburg— The Regensburg E-Mobility Cluster and the East Bavarian Technical University of Regensburg are building Bavaria’s largest research and development network for hydrogen in cooperation with the IHK Regensburg for Upper Palatinate and Kelheim. On June 17, 2020, the first online workshop on the topic “Development of new technologies based on hydrogen and fuel cells for the mobility of tomorrow” took place with over 100 participants.

Ambitious climate protection goals require common thinking in the areas of energy, industry and mobility. For this purpose, hydrogen offers a variety of solutions for the mobility sector, which are to be developed and used in the e-mobility cluster. New drive technologies in particular, such as e-mobility, play a central role in achieving the climate protection goals : The reduction of CO 2 emissions in the transport sector by around 40 percent by 2030 compared to the base year 1990 will only be possible if alternative drives and Fuels becomes an essential part.

Prof. Dr. In the kick-off workshop, Hans-Peter Rabl from OTH Regensburg, partner of the network, emphasized that hydrogen technologies are of strategic importance for e-mobility: “Hydrogen can be used in fuel cells to generate energy for electric drives. This technology can be used in electric cars, but especially in buses and trucks, because larger ranges are necessary here and large loads have to be transported. “Uwe Pfeil, manager of the Regensburg E-Mobility Cluster, is looking forward to a rapidly growing network:” We have a lot of experience in building networks from our cluster work. We have now identified the topic of hydrogen as an important field of technology and are happy to be involved in building the new innovation network. ”

The workshop was aimed at companies with corresponding competencies in the R&D area, willing to work on cross-company open innovation projects, to share knowledge and to develop new technologies together.
The goal of the network is the joint development of a technological focus and the development of possible approaches for R&D joint projects. In addition, a concrete cooperation with the OTH Regensburg was already presented in the workshop. From 2021, a hydrogen test environment will be available here, which will also be made available to companies.

After the successful online workshop there are four follow-up appointments “Mobility needs hydrogen” with the focus on demonstration projects, system technology, production technology and electrolysis. New partners can join the innovation network at any time.

About the e-mobility cluster
The Regensburg e-mobility cluster is organized by R-Tech GmbH. R-Tech GmbH is a company of the city of Regensburg and has the task of promoting the innovative ability of regional technology companies and can also act nationally in projects, cooperations and networks. The company operates one of the largest Bavarian start-up and innovation centers – the TechBase – and organizes the e-mobility and IT logistics clusters. In the period from 2010 to 2020, R-Tech GmbH initiated around 50 innovation projects with a project volume of 20 million euros. These are regional, national and international collaborative projects between several companies and research institutions. In addition to activities in the R&D area, R-Tech supports companies through technology marketing. These include measures such as the conception of flyers and image brochures, the creation and operation of project websites, the issuing of newsletters, the establishment of social media, the establishment and implementation of events and congresses and the organization and participation of joint stands at trade fairs, e.g. LogiMAT (Stuttgart), eMove360 (Munich ) and it-sa (Nuremberg). R-Tech GmbH has a wide international network, especially to other automotive clusters in Europe.
