Hyosung Heavy Industries has announced its partnership with Austria-based INNIO Jenbacher through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) aimed at the development of hydrogen engine generators. The MOA signing took place at the Mapo Hyosung headquarters on July 4th, signaling the two companies’ joint efforts to expand the sales of hydrogen engine generators that contribute to carbon neutrality.

Hydrogen engine generators are capable of utilizing both hydrogen and natural gas as fuel sources, offering the advantage of flexible output control and start-stop operations.

The hydrogen engine generator, which both companies are preparing for mass production, is expected to offset the output variability of renewable energy and contribute to power system stabilization when integrated with renewable energy. Hyosung Heavy Industries is currently preparing to operate the hydrogen engine generator using byproduct hydrogen produced at the Hyosung Chemical Yongyeon plant.

During the second general meeting of the ‘Korea H2 Business Summit’ in June, Hyosung Group Vice Chairman Cho Hyun-sang expressed the group’s future vision by saying, “Hyosung Group has been making efforts to expand the sustainable energy market, such as CNG refueling business, LNG, and hydrogen refueling stations, since 2000. We will contribute to achieving a leading hydrogen nation.”
