Fuel Cells Works, Hysolar/Greenpoint Continues to Invest in the Hydrogen Chain

The Hysolar/Greenpoint hydrogen filling station in Nieuwegein has been a fact since 2021. That was the first step. Hysolar/Greenpoint is now fully investing in the development of a real hydrogen chain: from hydrogen production using an electrolyser to hydrogen trailers for the delivery of green hydrogen on location.

Trailers for transporting hydrogen

Delivery on location

Greenpoint/Van Kessel – co-initiator of Hysolar in Nieuwegein – has purchased five trailers for the transport of hydrogen. The trailers are equipped with 20ft containers with special Type 4 lightweight composite cylinders in which hydrogen is stored under a pressure of 300 bar. Each trailer can thus transport 400 kg of hydrogen. The transport of hydrogen will be necessary in the future to supply Greenpoint’s hydrogen filling stations. The trailers will be used for the supply of hydrogen to filling stations from the Greenpoint Hysolar H2 station in Nieuwegein. Projects for new Greenpoint hydrogen stations in Oude-Tonge, Ede and Dordrecht, among others, are at an advanced stage.

Joan van Kessel, General Manager of Van Kessel / Greenpoint: “Our goal is to become a leading player in the Dutch hydrogen market with a strategic network of hydrogen filling stations and production of green hydrogen. The investment in these hydrogen trailers is an important step towards achieving that goal. With these trailers we can supply locations where local production of green hydrogen is not (yet) possible.”

Green hydrogen production in Nieuwegein

In the meantime, Hysolar is fully preparing to start the production of green hydrogen, including the permit application and supplier selection. As soon as production is up and running, green hydrogen will also be available for locations elsewhere, eg for use in mobile equipment (including tractors, excavators or aggregates) and inland shipping. The production of green hydrogen is made possible in part thanks to a contribution from the EU LIFE programme.
