IET’s Response to Transport Minister Rachel Maclean Announcing the UK’s First Hydrogen Transport Hub

IET Hydrogen Hub Comments

Following Transport Minister Rachel Maclean announcing that the UK’s first hydrogen transport hub is to open in the Tees Valley, Paloma Cid, IET Transport Lead, said:

“This is a significant step towards establishing the UK as a global leader in innovation in hydrogen propulsion, one of the most promising technologies to the decarbonisation of the transport sector. We need to be innovative in our technological advances in decarbonisation to reach the UK Government’s target of Net-Zero by 2050.

“The initiative fosters positive collaboration between industry, government and academia, enabling cutting-edge research in hydrogen power in order to find a clear path to its commercialisation. It also gives industry access to the latest research and innovation and provides a platform for cross-model learning, paving an exciting future for the development of more sustainable and green travel solutions.

“We hope this provides a welcome boost to the creation of more green engineering jobs, which will in turn support the economy and foster skills that will lead us to a sustainable future.  As well as helping achieve the Government’s net-zero carbon agenda, it could mean different modes of transport can now advance faster and more efficiently for the benefit of us all.”
