This latest offering from the Spanish manufacturer not only marks a significant stride toward a carbon-neutral future but also claims an impressive range of up to 1,000km on a single refuel, which takes a mere 20 minutes.
At the Busworld International Fair, the spotlight was on Irizar’s unwavering commitment to innovation. They showcased their multi-technological fleet of sustainable vehicles, headlined by the new hydrogen-driven Irizar i6S, emphasizing their dedication to the global push for decarbonization.
The sprawling 1710 m2 exhibit space at stand number 602 in Hall 6 bore witness to Irizar’s innovative prowess. It played host to an array of cutting-edge vehicles, including the newly unveiled hydrogen coach. A bevy of upgrades has been integrated into these machines, from advanced safety and cybersecurity measures to revamped driver cockpit designs and more.
Irizar’s vision is clear: To be a significant player in the future’s sustainable mobility narrative. “The path to decarbonization is multifaceted and we’re geared for it,” Irizar stated, emphasizing their holistic approach.
The centerpiece, the Irizar i6S Efficient Hydrogen, stands as Europe’s first zero-emission H2 coach. Developed entirely in-house by Irizar, in collaboration with leading tech companies and centers, this prototype is currently undergoing rigorous testing. This initiative underscores Irizar’s ambition to provide a comprehensive range of emission-free vehicles suitable for both short and long journeys.
One of the standout features of this hydrogen vehicle is its ability to deliver an extensive range of up to 1000 km. This ensures that the operators’ daily routines and schedules remain unchanged, even as they make a sustainable shift. The future variants of this hydrogen vehicle, including the Irizar i6S Efficient and Irizar i4 models, promise even more enhancements like increased trunk and passenger space, better range, and reduced weight.
Durability remains a cornerstone of Irizar’s hydrogen coach vision. While the vehicle’s batteries are designed to last its entire lifespan, its fuel cell is expected to serve reliably for around 30,000 hours of operation, based on route types and utilization, before necessitating maintenance.
To double down on their efficient legacy, Irizar also spotlighted the i6S Efficient coach. Since its introduction last May, it’s been recognized as the most efficient coach Irizar has ever produced. With consumption and emission reductions up to 13% and a remarkable aerodynamic coefficient improvement of 30%, this coach is a testament to Irizar’s commitment to innovation and sustainability.
Client testimonials and rigorous testing at Idiada, a globally renowned applied research institute, bolster the credentials of the Irizar i6S Efficient. Currently, approximately 700 units are operational worldwide, with strong market presence in regions like Spain, France, Italy, and even making inroads in Scandinavia, Germany, and the Baltic countries.
