Fuel Cells Works, Japan: Yanmar Conducts the World’s First 70 MPa High-Pressure Hydrogen Refueling of a Ship

Yanmar Power Technology Co., Ltd. a group company of Yanmar Holdings Co., Ltd., used a demonstration test boat equipped with a fuel cell system to make the world’s first ship.

Company conducted a 70MPa high-pressure hydrogen and a navigation test on the route connecting the planned site of the Osaka / Kansai Expo and the sightseeing spots along the coast of the city.

fuelcellsworks, Yanmar Conducts Field Demonstration Test for Maritime Hydrogen Fuel Cell SystemThis 70MPa high-pressure hydrogen filling was carried out in collaboration with Toyota Tsusho Co., Ltd. using a specially licensed high-pressure filling facility and a newly prototyped long hydrogen filling hose facility. It has been confirmed that the cruising time is more than three times longer than the conventional filling method, and it is possible to navigate closer to actual operation. The results obtained will be used for the practical application of hydrogen fuel cell systems and the study of marine hydrogen infrastructure in the future.

YPT is developing a 300kW class marine fuel cell system that utilizes a fuel cell module manufactured by Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. in anticipation of the development of a hydrogen fuel cell system for ships under the concept of carbon neutral port by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. .. In the future, we will obtain type approval from the Ship Class Association so that it can be installed on various ship types, and aim to bring it to market in 2023.
