Fuel Cells Works, Korea: Doosan Fuel Cell Participates in a Fuel Cell Pilot Project Project

Project that utilizes by-product hydrogen generated from the Ulsan Mipo Industrial Complex

Doosan Fuel Cell announced on September 3rd, that it had signed an MOU for joint development of the Ulsan Mipo Industrial Complex load response fuel cell pilot project with Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, Hyundai Motor Company, LS Electric, and SK Gas through online non-face-to-face.

Through this agreement, the participating companies will build a load-response fuel cell power plant based on by-product hydrogen generated from the Ulsan Mipo Industrial Complex. In particular, this project plans to pilot a load response method that adjusts the amount of power generation according to the System Marginal Price (SMP) and fuel cost in connection with the Virtual Power Plant (VPP)* platform. .

*Virtual Power Plant (VPP): A system that operates small-scale renewable energy distributed power sources such as fuel cells and solar power as a single power plant using cloud-based artificial intelligence software *System Marginal Price (SMP) ) : The price of electricity determined in the electricity market

In this project, which is being carried out on a site of about 833 pyeong in Michang Co., Ltd. located within the Ulsan Mipo Industrial Complex, Doosan Fuel Cell produces base power through a phosphoric acid fuel cell (PAFC) 3.08MW and provides long-term maintenance services.

A fuel cell is a representative distributed power source that can compensate for the fluctuations in power supply and demand of new and renewable energies such as solar power and wind power in that it can speed up load-following operation by immediately adjusting the output when necessary.

In addition, there is no power loss in the process of transmission and transformation, and there is no need to install a separate transmission and transformation facility, thereby reducing economic and social costs.
