Fuel Cells Works, Korea: KHNP and SK Energy Promoting the 'Energy Super Station Hydrogen Convergence Project'

SK Energy has partnered with Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) to expand urban energy super stations and promote environmentally friendly hydrogen convergence projects.

The two companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on January 13th, in which they plan to use key customer contact points such as SK Energy gas stations, LPG charging stations, and Netruck Houses, as well as idle national and public lands, to build complex energy super stations.

The Energy Super Station concept uses existing gas station sites to produce new and renewable energy and uses it for charging eco-friendly vehicles, as an alternative to improving power self-sufficiency through urban distributed generation, minimizing transmission and distribution losses, and establishing a stable electric vehicle charging network.

SK Energy will also carry out a project to build an on-site hydrogen filling station based on Doosan Fuel Cell’s ‘Trigen’ fuel cell system for electricity and hydrogen production with KHNP. It will be installed on a pilot basis at SK Energy’s Netruck House, which has a high demand for hydrogen commercial vehicle charging and will gradually expand on-site hydrogen charging stations to highway rest areas and bus garages across the country.

Jang Ho-joon, head of SK Energy’s S&P (Solution & Platform) Promotion Team, said, “Through this cooperation, we will accelerate the conversion of existing gas stations into energy super stations in preparation for the era of eco-friendly cars in the future, and realize net zero and distributed power generation by pioneering new energy industries. We will actively cooperate with KHNP to contribute to revitalization.”
