Korea Worlds First 5 Ton Hydrogen Garbage Truck Goes Into Service in Changwon

In front of its city hall, Changwon City today unveiled the first 5-ton hydrogen and fuel cell powered garbage truck.

Kick off ceremony was attended by Changwon City, Korea Automobile Research Institute and Hyundai Motor Company

The hydrogen cleaning truck was developed by the Korea Automobile Research Institute, Hyundai Motor Company and 5 other organizations through the research project of the Ministry of Industry’s’Development of Fuel Cell Cooling System and Hydrogen Truck for 5t Class Commercial Vehicles’.

The hydrogen truck can drive about 350 km with one refueling of 25 kg of hydrogen.

Mayor Heo Seong-moo said, “Starting in the new year, the world’s first hydrogen cleaning truck will start operating in Changwon, and we expect to see a new future of the hydrogen industry in the field. We will do our best to make it a ‘hydrogen industrial city’ pursued by Changwon City by cooperating with organizations and companies.” He added, “We will introduce various mobility and advanced facilities that citizens can experience, and strive to lead the domestic hydrogen economy policy.”
