Leading hydrogen company Logan Energy has appointed a former NATO Chief of Staff Gary Deakin as Head of Transformation, signalling the Scottish firm’s ambitious expansion plans across the UK.
Deakin brings 36 years of experience in leadership, planning, organisational change and people from his previous position in the British Army’s Chief of Staff of a NATO Headquarters in Italy in the rank of Major General. He was responsible for the planning and execution of NATO operations across southern Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.
Logan Energy designs, installs and maintains integrated hydrogen energy systems in the UK and internationally. Its aim is to help businesses achieve their carbon reduction targets and make a difference in the race to net zero.
Gary’s appointment will allow the organisation to scale at pace in response to demand for hydrogen energy systems such as microgrids and refuelling services for long range electric heavy goods vehicles (HGVs).
Deakin said: “I am passionate about combatting climate change, so was keen to find a position in renewable energy that suited my skillset after my military career.
“I spent time with a number of different companies in the renewable energy industry, large, medium and small. I rated my time with Logan Energy as the best. The talent in the team is exceptional, they really want to make a difference and I really wanted to be part of another high performance team.
“I will guide the company as it moves up a gear and will enable it to meet the demand for our services which increases year on year. The workforce has doubled in strength in the last year alone, and will continue to grow significantly in size over the next 5 years, bringing 100 new renewable energy jobs to East Lothian, Scotland and the UK.”
Logan Energy is set to expand its service offering across the UK and overseas, with new facilities at its Wallyford headquarters in East Lothian. There is strong growth potential in the energy services sector, with a focus on hydrogen refuelling sites and clean hydrogen infrastructure. Logan also aims to accelerate the development of its proprietary hydrogen technologies.
