Fuel Cells Works, Minister Meets Councillors and Energy Chiefs in Aberdeen Hydrogen Facility Visit

Nusrat Ghani, minister for industry and investment security, visited Aberdeen City Hydrogen Energy Storage last Thursday to learn more about the development of hydrogen-fuelled vehicles in the city.

A UK Government minister met energy industry bosses and leading councillors on a visit to a hydrogen re-fuelling station in Aberdeen.

Nusrat Ghani, minister for industry and investment security, visited Aberdeen City Hydrogen Energy Storage (ACHES) last Thursday to learn more about the development of hydrogen-fuelled vehicles in the city.

The £2.6million Cove facility, one of two hydrogen re-fuelling sites in the city, forms part of a broader plan to make Aberdeen a hub for green hydrogen.

Work is ongoing to create a production, storage and distribution site in a joint venture between the city council and BP.

Ms Ghani was greeted by BP chiefs as well as administration councillors Miranda Radley and Martin Greig. She also visited the newly-expanded Port of Aberdeen.

She said: “As our gateway to the North Sea, Aberdeen is on the front line of our transition to net zero.

“The work being pioneered in this city, from hydrogen to offshore wind, is helping lead the whole of the UK to a cleaner, greener future.”

City council co-leader and net zero convener Ian Yuill added: “We are delighted to welcome Minister Ghani to Aberdeen and to be able to showcase the fantastic work being undertaken to reach Net Zero.
