oxford nanosystems groundbreaking coating technology paves the way for economical green hydrogen

Oxford nanoSystems Ltd. (OnS), a leader in advanced materials technology, announced a significant development in reducing the production cost of zero-emission green hydrogen. This development centres around OnS’ proprietary coating, nanoFLUX, which enhances the hydrogen production capacity of alkaline electrolyzers by over 50%. This comes at a fraction of the cost of current cutting-edge coatings, making green hydrogen more competitive against fossil fuels, and thus potentially accelerating the transition to a hydrogen economy.

The advanced metallic-alloy coating, nanoFLUX, is applied to the electrodes. It facilitates the formation and release of gas bubbles within the electrolyzer, which in turn boosts the overall efficiency of the hydrogen production process. This breakthrough coating is coupled with a proprietary catalyst designed to expedite the hydrogen generation reaction.

E4tech (part of the ERM Group), an esteemed international consulting firm specializing in sustainable energy technologies, independently assessed and confirmed the cost-benefit advantage presented by nanoFLUX.

Dr. Ian Russell, CEO of OnS, expressed his delight at the results of the external benchmarking analysis that highlighted nanoFLUX’s potential. “The Company is collaborating with several leading electrolyzer manufacturers to test and eventually scale up the production of nanoFLUX,” said Russell. “This is an essential step toward significantly reducing the cost of green hydrogen production.”
