Proton Motor Fuel Cell Order for Garbage Trucks

Dutch-Belgian company “E-Trucks Europe” orders five HyRange® hydrogen fuel cell systems based on EU project “REVIVE”

Puchheim–The German high-tech market leader for hydrogen fuel cells and hybrid electric systems with a carbon-free footprint, “Proton Motor Fuel Cell GmbH” ( www.proton-motor.de ), from Puchheim in Bavaria, Germany, has placed the new order from the company “E -Trucks Europe ”( www.e-truckseurope.com ).

The specialist for the construction of electric-hydrogen hybrid commercial vehicles, which is based in the Netherlands and Belgium, has ordered five fuel cell systems from Proton Motor. Previously, the successful delivery was at the beginning of 2020 of the first HyRange ® -45 solution to increase the range of the Bavarian technology provider, whose integration into a vehicle is currently being implemented by E-Trucks Europe.

The five hydrogen fuel cell systems now commissioned are based on the award in the EU funding project “REVIVE”, which stands for “Refuse Vehicle Innovation and Validation in Europe” ( www.h2revive.eu ). The tender, which runs from 2018 to 2021, aims to build and put into operation 15 commercial vehicles for the collection of waste in Europe. The drive of these garbage trucks is 100 percent electric, which makes them quiet and does not emit greenhouse gases or fine dust. To increase the range, the vehicles will be equipped with a hydrogen fuel cell system that converts hydrogen into electricity and has clean water as a waste product.

As a member of the consortium to which the REVIVE project was assigned, Proton Motor Fuel Cell GmbH is to be entrusted with the supply of a total of 14 fuel cell systems to equip refuse collection vehicles. Their public application and usage qualities are being tested in eight different regions or cities such as Breda, Helmond, Amsterdam, Groningen, Roosendaal, Antwerp and Bozen or Meran in South Tyrol.
