Fuel Cells Works, Proton Ventures: Dutch Fund Supports Moroccan Hydrogen and Ammonia Plants

A loan secured by Atradius is being offered by the Dutch impact fund Invest International for the development of a green ammonia and hydrogen production facility in Morocco.

The plant will be built by Proton Ventures, a Rotterdam-based company specializing in the manufacture of ammonia from renewable energy sources.

A loan agreement was signed on July 19 to assist Proton Ventures with its working capital needs. The Dutch export credit agency Atradius DSB guarantees working capital.

Designed to produce four tonnes of green ammonia per day, the plant will utilize two electrolysers with a capacity of 2MW each, powered by solar and wind energy.

Since Morocco has an abundance of wind, sun, and terrain, it is an ideal location for large-scale hydrogen generation.

The use of green hydrogen – created from renewable electricity – has been proposed as a possible replacement for fossil gas in specific sectors.

According to Atradius DSB, the transaction will strengthen trade relations between the two countries.
