Australia’s Pure Hydrogen has launched the Taurus, a groundbreaking hydrogen fuel cell prime mover, marking a significant step in the country’s shift towards clean energy in transportation. Available for purchase, the Taurus stands as Australia’s inaugural hydrogen fuel cell (HFC) powered heavy vehicle, poised to revolutionize long-haul transport with its eco-friendly technology.

Committed to fostering a hydrogen-driven economy, Pure Hydrogen has forged multiple partnerships to promote the use of hydrogen in heavy vehicles. A key collaboration involves supplying JJ’s, a prominent domestic waste collection firm, with an HFC-powered waste removal truck, alongside providing green hydrogen and refueling services. Additionally, its affiliate, H-Drive International, is set to deploy two battery electric minibuses in early 2024.

The Taurus has already been field-tested in a six-month trial with PepsiCo Australia, showcasing its viability in real-world conditions. This vehicle not only represents a significant innovation as Australia’s first HFC prime mover but also impresses with its performance, offering over 600km range and quick 15-minute refueling capabilities, a notable advantage over battery-electric vehicles.

Designed for endurance and efficiency, the Taurus is equipped to tackle challenging tasks and ensures driver comfort for long journeys. It integrates components from established diesel truck suppliers like Hendrikson, Dana, CATL, Eaton, and Jost, ensuring reliability and ease of maintenance.

While the Taurus’s initial specifications indicated a capacity of up to 70 tons, current hauling capabilities are yet to be detailed. Official sources state a range of 400 kilometers, though recent updates suggest an extended range of 600 kilometers. This release marks a pivotal moment for Australia’s transport sector, steering it towards a more sustainable and efficient future.
