  • Donadio has been responsible for the development and advancement of engineering capabilities as Head of Centre of Competence Engineering since January 2nd, 2024
  • He brings a decade of experience in the energy sector with him

Wiesbaden– Hy2gen, the global project developer, financier, builder, owner, and operator of plants for the production of renewable hydrogen and hydrogen-based e-fuels, is proud  to announce the appointment of Paolo Donadio as the new Head of Centre of Competence Engineering. Donadio, a seasoned professional with extensive experience in the energy sector, joined the Hy2gen team in January 2024.

Donadio expresses his enthusiasm about his new role, saying, “I’m thrilled to start my journey at Hy2gen and look forward to working with this exceptional team of experts. The engineering tasks for the complex plants we are currently planning are challenging. Power-to-X technologies are key components in the energy transition, closing the gap between electrification and burning fuel in a jet or a ship, which makes them so valuable for lowering carbon emissions on a global scale. I’m really eager to contribute my skills to the company and to have the opportunity to shape the energy economy of the future.”

Ideal appointment for the development of Hy2gen AG’s major projects

Donadio’s  background includes a degree in Mechanical Engineering, and a decade of experience in the energy sector. His career-highlights include roles at Bertsch as a Construction Manager for power plants, and at INP as Technical Lead in Mechanical Engineering and Project Manager in the Hydrogen sector, focusing on PEM electrolysis. He completed his academic journey with a Master of Science in Engineering from FH Burgenland.

Bernd Hübner, CFO of Hy2gen, warmly welcomed Donadio to the team: “We are happy to have Paolo on board. With his many years of experience in engineering in the hydrogen sector, we are now ideally positioned to drive forward our major projects and the further development of our engineering team.”

Donadio’s appointment marks a significant milestone for Hy2gen in its pursuit to become market leader in hydrogen and other renewable fuels. His expertise and leadership are expected to greatly contribute to the company’s engineering excellence and project development.

About HY2GEN AG

Hy2gen AG, based in Wiesbaden, Germany, globally develops, finances, builds, owns, and operates plants for the production of renewable fuels of non-biological origin (RFNBOs). The company specialises in the entire product range – from renewable hydrogen, commonly known as “green” hydrogen, to renewable ammonia and hydrogen-based e-fuels. The first plants will be built in France, Norway, Canada, Germany, and the USA. Hy2gen’s goal is to become the market leader in the production of renewable hydrogen and its derivatives for climate-neutral mobility, agriculture, and industry.

Founded in 2017, the company’s first mover advantage is underlined by a current project pipeline in planning and construction of 1.9GW and a project pipeline of over 12GW of electrolysis capacity in development.

In 2019, Swiss commodity trader, Trafigura, and other private investors took a position in Hy2gen’s first round financing. In early 2022, Hy2gen closed a further €200 million from French technology and engineering firm, TechnipEnergies; Quebec pension fund, CDPQ; French sustainable investment manager, Mirova; and the €2 billion Hy24 Clean Hydrogen Infrastructure Fund backed by Air Liquide, TotalEnergies, VINCI Concessions, Plug Power, Chart Industries, Baker-Hughes, and Airbus, among others. This remains one of the largest green hydrogen-focused private capital raises to date.
