Sembcorp Industries (SGX:U96) has linked up with Japan’s Chiyoda (TYO:6366) and Mitsubishi (TYO:8058) to deliver decarbonized hydrogen in Singapore.
Sembcorp unit Sembcorp Utilities signed a memorandum of understanding with the Japanese duo to explore the possibility of executing a commercial-scale, decarbonized hydrogen supply chain in Singapore.
Under the MOU, the supply chain will use Chiyoda’s hydrogen storage and transportation technology, called SPERA Hydrogen, to release hydrogen from Methylcyclohexane, a liquid organic hydrogen carrier.
Methylcyclohexane will then be shipped to Singapore, where Sembcorp will perform tests by blending carbon-neutral hydrogen with natural gas to decarbonize power generation. The company will then supply carbon-neutral hydrogen to customers for fuel, chemical feedstock and other applications.
Meanwhile, Mitsubishi will commercialize the overall supply chain to deliver decarbonized hydrogen to Singapore.
