
- Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions’ advanced technologies and solutions will support the hydrogen economy
Kawasaki and Abu Dhabi — Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corporation (Toshiba ESS) will exhibit its leading-edge hydrogen energy system solutions and technologies at the World Future Energy Summit 2019 (WFES 2019) in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), from January 14 to 19.
WFES is the world’s foremost annual event dedicated to advancing renewable and clean energy technologies. Following last year, Toshiba ESS, as a leader in hydrogen systems, will use WFES 2019 to showcase its technologies and solutions.
At the Japan pavilion booth, Toshiba ESS will introduce the “Fukushima Hydrogen Energy Research Field” (FH2R) with a diorama and panel, as well as exhibit H2One™ mock-ups, an autonomous hydrogen energy supply system, and a pure hydrogen fuel cell system. FH2R is a major project* that Toshiba ESS is participating in construction and operation with Tohoku Electric Power Co., Inc. and Iwatani Corporation.
Hiroyuki Ota, General Manager of Hydrogen Energy Business Div. at Toshiba ESS said, “I am confident that our hydrogen-related technologies and solutions will contribute to expanding renewable energy.”
*The project has won a positive evaluation from Japan’s New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO).
The aim of this project is to demonstrate the technical and commercial feasibility of a 10 MW large-scale power-to-gas system with a specific focus on the production of hydrogen from renewable energy, and its transportation and storage. FH2R will start operation in 2020 in Namie Town, Fukushima Prefecture, Japan.
The overall goal is to use the findings of this project to increase the penetration of renewable energy through the large-scale deployment of sustainable hydrogen-based business systems.
This project is based on the “Fukushima Plan for a New Energy Society” by the Council for Realizing the Fukushima Plan for a New Energy Society.
H2One™, Toshiba ESS’s hydrogen-based autonomous energy supply system, is a completely integrated stand-alone system that delivers stable electricity that is CO2-free and environmentally friendly. In normal use and during disasters, H2One™ contributes to energy supply stability by using hydrogen generated with renewable energy as fuel. The system can be transported anywhere in an emergency.
