BAKU, Azerbaijan– US ready to support Azerbaijan in producing green hydrogen, Geoffrey Pyatt, US Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources, told Trend during a briefing.
“Azerbaijan and the US have a similar vision – we are both oil and gas producers, but at the same time, we recognize the critical situation in regards with climate crisis, and the need to double down on our commitments to energy transition and new energy technologies. For instance, green hydrogen is one of the areas of high priority for the Government of Azerbaijan. The US will lead globally in this area, because of the incentives included in our Inflation Reduction Act. We have huge new green hydrogen projects coming online soon in the US, implemented by such companies as ExxonMobile, for example. Obvious, there is potential to do a lot in this area with Azerbaijan,” he said.
Pyatt added that, during his visit, he was able to talk to the representatives of Azerbaijan’s SOCAR and discuss the plans regarding methane and carbon capture, and noted that, that Azerbaijan and US companies, such as ExxonMobile, or Chevron, have the same vision in this regard, so there is a lot of potential to tap in this area as well.
