Fuel Cells Works, Worldwide Sales of Hydrogen Fuel Cell Cars Double from Last Year

Compared to last year, hydrogen fuel cell vehicle sales have nearly doubled worldwide this year and Hyundai Motor topped the list with more than half of the sales.

In a report published on the 6th of October by SNE Research, a market research institute specific to energy, the total sales of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles registered globally until August this year were about 11,200 units, which is 91.7% higher than the same period last year (about 5,900 units).

First-generation Hyundai Nexo models and Toyota Mirai models were among the leading hydrogen cars in 2021.

About 5,900 units of the Nexo were sold until August of this year, up 34.2% from last year (4,400 units). This accounted for 52.2% of global hydrogen car sales.

In August of this year, Toyota sold 4,400 hydrogen fuel cell cars, 7.3 times more than this time last year (600 units) thanks to the success of the second-generation Mirai, which was launched last year. Second place was maintained with a market share of 39.2%.
