Avions Mauboussin and the University of Technology of Belfort-Montbéliard (UTBM) have teamed up to design Zephyr a hydrogen drive propulsion system for aircraft.

The aircraft was designed for the Alérion M1h and the choice of hydrogen will completely eliminate polluting emissions and the use of fossil fuels. The other advantage is also the reduction of noise and nuisance for residents near aerodromes.

Z%C3%A9phyr“The Zéphyr system will be available in several powers for the whole range of Mauboussin Aircraft… and other urban or responsible mobility applications (drones, ships, light vehicles, etc.). The solution will be certified according to strict EASA rules for entry into service in the middle of the decade.”

This innovation benefits from the highly developed ecosystem of the hydrogen sector in the Burgundy Franche-Comté region and will integrate the full cycle of (green) production and distribution of hydrogen, for a “turnkey” solution for transport operators and pilots -propriétaires. It will also create a new industrial activity in Nord Franche-Comté.

The study is supported by the BFC region (via the Burgundy Franche-Comté Regional Economic Agency) and Bpifrance.
