The German truck supplier Quantron will be one of the manufacturers able to distribute hydrogen trucks to Norwegian companies via the H2 Truck project. By this, the last piece falls into place to get hydrogen trucks on Norwegian roads.
Quantron was created in 2019 as a high-tech spin-off of the well-known Haller GmbH & Co, offering electric trucks and buses of all weight and size classes to commercial customers, municipalities, foundations and cooperatives. Quantron plans to expand its offering of emission free mobility solutions, across the complete chain of sustainable mobility. For this purpose, Quantron has entered a strategic partnership with Ballard Power Systems, a global leader in fuel cell technologies, for the development of hydrogen fuel cell electric trucks (FCEV).
- Together with the H2 Truck project, we intend to bring several FCEV platforms to the Norwegian market, says Anil Reddi, Project Leader for Quantron as a Service.
The ecosystem is crucial
Quantron will begin manufacturing FCEVs in 2022 and should be able to provide vehicles to Norway in 2023. Mr. Reddi acknowledges the ecosystem established by the H2 Truck project.
- The project has gathered the entire value chain in an ecosystem making it attractive to deploy our trucks. We aim to offer the customers a full service based on Green Hydrogen, and see this as a great opportunity, says Anil Reddi.
For Quantron, it is also important that the H2 Truck project is linked to other European initiatives like the STRING Hydrogen Corridor project.

An important breakthrough
H2 Truck aims to get the first 100 hydrogen trucks to the Oslo region, with associated infrastructure. Project manager Jan Carsten Gjerløw see the collaboration with Quantron as a breakthrough for the project, and for the deployment of zero emission trucks in Norway.
- Quantron’s initiative is just what we need. The transport industry is ready to move to zero emission, and hydrogen will be part of the solution. What we need now is the trucks, and I am delighted to cooperate with Quantron to kick-start deployment of hydrogen trucks in Norway, says Jan Carsten Gjerløw, CEO of Evig Grønn AS.
He believes this is an important message to the politicians as well.
- Several truck manufacturers are now preparing production of hydrogen trucks. It is time to get national incentives for developing a network of refuelling stations and for procurement of hydrogen trucks in place, says Gjerløw.
During the last 2 years, H2 Truck has brought together the most important players in the value chain for rolling out hydrogen trucks in Norway: Producers of green hydrogen, station operators and suppliers of equipment and the users of trucks. This is done in close cooperation with the regional authorities in the city of Oslo and Viken County.
- With the trucks now being available, the last piece in the puzzle falls into place, says Gjerløw.

About H2 Truck
Road traffic accounts for 17 per cent of the total greenhouse gas emissions, and more than half of the emissions from the transport sector. Emissions from heavy transport have increased in recent years, and amount to approx. half of the emissions from road traffic. Emissions from heavy vehicles and vans in 2019 totaled 4 million tonnes of CO2 equivalents.
