China: SAIC Motor’s 70 million USD Fuel Cell Project Launched in Jiading

On March 16, 2020, Shanghai Hydrogen Propulsion Technology Co., Ltd (SHPT) the subsidiary of SAIC Motor launched a new fuel cell project in the Jiading District of Shanghai.

This hydrogen fuel cell project is located in Jiading Hydropower Port. The total investment of the project is 500 million yuan. After the completion of the park, the four functions of R & D office, test and verification, pilot production and hydrogen supply will be realized.

The production capacity of the first phase will reach 12,000 fuel cell stacks and systems, and it is planned to be put into production in August 2021. It is expected that the output value will reach 1.2 billion yuan in 2024.

As an independent innovative technology enterprise integrating fuel cell stacks and system research and development, production, procurement, and sales, Shanghai Hydrogen Propulsion Technology Co. has independently developed a fuel cell system product named PROME P390  which has a stack power of 115kW and a volume power density of 3.1kW. / L, can achieve low temperature start at minus 30 ℃.

SHPT was founded in 2018 and its core mission is to is set up and accelerate the commercialization and industrialization of fuel cell-related products for SAIC Motor. The subsidiary says it” provides fuel cell products and engineering services for vehicle manufacturers and has completed the development of several types of fuel cell stacks and systems, with power levels ranging from 30kW to 100kW and above. It mainly serves SAIC-owned brands such as Roewe, Maxus, Sunwin, Hongyan and Naveco.”
