Competing under the “Towards a sustainable and circular hydrogen economy” category, BEST4Hy won the Award alongside five other Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Join Undertaking (FCH JU) funded projects: SH2E, HYGUIDE, HYTECHCYCLING, EGHOST and CERTIFHY.

BEST4Hy is an international partnership focusing on developing technologies, adapted specifically for Solid Oxide Fuel/Electrolysis Cells and PEMFCs (Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells), to maximise the recycling of critical raw materials recovered from end-of-life product.

Elcogen works closely with BEST4HY to minimise the environmental impact of its solid oxide cells and advises on the reuse of recycled materials, as the project continues to develop its innovative SOFC/SOEC recycling technology. The project aims to reach a point where re-manufacturing of new cells and stacks include a minimum 30% of recycled critical raw materials in solid oxide cell manufacturing.

Enn Õunpuu, founder and CEO of Elcogen, said: “We’re proud to support BEST4Hy and this award recognises the project’s impact and its commitment to provide innovative and sustainable solutions for end-of-life cells.

“The sustainability and circular-economy thinking behind the project aligns closely with our own mission at Elcogen – to enable efficient and emission-free distributed power generation and green hydrogen production for a cleaner future – and further enhances the environmental credentials of solid oxide technology as an integral part of the hydrogen economy and clean energy transition.”

The Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking is a unique public private partnership supporting research, technological development and demonstration (RTD) activities in fuel cell and hydrogen energy technologies in Europe. The three members of the FCH JU are the European Commission, fuel cell and hydrogen industries represented by Hydrogen Europe and the research community represented by Hydrogen Europe Research.

Hydrogen Week brings together policymakers, industry representatives, civil society organisations and the research community annually to discuss the latest developments at EU level in the hydrogen sector and will mark the public launch of the Clean Hydrogen Partnership – the successor to the Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Undertaking.
