SAFRA, a major player in the decarbonization of transport, and Hyliko, the first hydrogen mobility platform for road freight transport, announce the signing of a memorandum of understanding for the hydrogen retrofit of heavy goods vehicles in series. This strategic collaboration marks a major step forward in the decarbonization of the road freight transport sector in France.

Two players committed to the energy transition

Drawing on their respective expertise and their complementarity, SAFRA and Hyliko share a common vision to accelerate the energy transition of road freight transport. SAFRA is recognized for its unrivaled expertise in the retrofit of hydrogen vehicles, particularly for the road passenger transport sector. Hyliko has established itself as the precursor of hydrogen mobility in France with its all-in-one offer for the decarbonization of heavy transport including the supply and maintenance of hydrogen vehicles, refueling with green hydrogen in a network. of Hyliko & partners heavy goods vehicle stations and the traceability of the carbon footprint.

A shared organization, serving the putting on the road of hydrogen vehicles

The memorandum of understanding specifies the scope of the collaboration: the vehicles will be supplied by Hyliko, and retrofitted to the SAFRA factories in Albi, to allow their delivery within 6 weeks to the carriers, customers of the Hyliko* offer. The retrofit will consist of the dedicated design, renovation, and installation of the hydrogen hybrid powertrain.
This collaboration aims to pool the skills of Hyliko and SAFRA in vehicle architecture, assembly, production on an industrial scale, serving well-established logistics processes and certified technical security.

Bold ambitions for a sustainable future

Hyliko and Safra thus aim to acquire an industrial production capacity of a few dozen units per year from 2024 and to increase it to a few hundred vehicles per year in line with the growth in demand for these vehicles. By retrofitting old diesel vehicles into zero-emission hydrogen vehicles, these vehicles will benefit from a second life, extending their usefulness and reducing their environmental impact, while benefiting from a complete refurbishment, for the comfort of the carrier and the driver. on board.
Through this partnership, the two companies become the first industrial force to serially retrofit heavy goods vehicles into hydrogen vehicles in France.

This partnership is a continuation of the commitment of the two companies within the Retrofit H2 Coalition, which aims to develop hydrogen retrofit for mobility in France.

“ As a green hydrogen heavy-duty mobility platform, Hyliko is firmly committed to carrying out all actions that will allow heavy-duty hydrogen vehicles to be put on the road as quickly as possible to integrate them into its rental offer. While waiting for the supply of new hydrogen vehicles, and because we are convinced of the relevance of retrofit, we are keen to enter into this partnership with SAFRA which demonstrates our ambition: to rapidly deploy hydrogen propulsion and accelerate the transformation of the existing fleet , to achieve the objective of carbon neutrality in road freight transport ,” attests Ovarith Troeung, Managing Director of Hyliko.

“ We are proud of this partnership which allows us to leverage our skills in renovation and retrofit of heavy vehicles, as well as our experience and expertise as a manufacturer of heavy hydrogen vehicles. This association demonstrates the commitment of our respective companies to decarbonization and the rapid transformation of transport to zero emissions. This program is part of our strategy and our DNA: reducing the mobility footprint and enabling tomorrow to maintain a livable planet ,” adds Stéphane Prin, Managing Director of SAFRA.
