Germany Funding

Cultivating a Hydrogen Economy

Georgia has secured a €1.3 million funding commitment from the German government to foster the development of green hydrogen technology in the country, according to an announcement from the Georgian Ministry of Economy. The agreement, executed through the German Development Bank is part of intergovernmental development negotiations between the two nations.

The pact was signed in Berlin on Monday by representatives of the Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation and the German Development Bank.

A Strong Signal for Sustainable Energy

Romeo Mikautadze, Deputy Economy Minister of Georgia, stated that the country’s participation in the Green Hydrogen project as a member of the European Energy Union has provided the momentum for this development.

“We are not only studying the possibility of introducing [this] technological innovation in the country and being introduced to successful examples, but also starting a pilot project,” he said. “I would like to express my gratitude to the German Government, which is helping us develop use of green hydrogen.”

 Project Implementation and Future Plans

The Ministry of Economy disclosed that the preliminary work for implementing the technology will focus on assessing technical and economic feasibility, environmental impact, design, and related legislation.

In a significant move towards a sustainable energy future, the two countries have agreed to co-develop a green hydrogen pilot plant and establish its “full value chain.” The collaboration signals a shared commitment towards climate action and the development of a clean, renewable energy infrastructure.
