BERLIN (dpa-AFX) – A group of Union members has called on the federal government to be more dynamic and faster in the planned hydrogen strategy.

“We need a decision on the national hydrogen strategy in a timely manner, so that the market ramp-up for green hydrogen can succeed quickly,” said the CDU / CSU Group’s climate officer, Anja Weisgerber (CSU), the German press agency. Hydrogen is a key raw material to achieve climate goals. The technology also offers tremendous opportunities for the economy and job creation.

In a position paper, twelve MEPs are in favor of partnering with African countries to set up “green” hydrogen production. The dpa had the paper. It goes on to say: “For Germany it is already clear today that we will not achieve our national climate targets solely by further expanding renewable energies in our own country – even if this is constantly being propagated by individual parties in the German Bundestag.”

The federal government’s hydrogen strategy is only known in draft versions. The Ministry of Economy, Environment and Research are arguing over which types of hydrogen are to be promoted and where they should be used.

The MEPs paper said that in order to make “green” hydrogen a pioneer of a global energy transition and achieve ambitious climate goals, more dynamism and speed are needed. “The German government must finally launch its hydrogen strategy in order to send a clear signal to the world. We want to play a leading role in the development of a green hydrogen economy.” / Hoe / DP / mis
