Groupe E and ENGIE to Jointly Promote Green Hydrogen Technology Main

Groupe E and ENGIE Services AG are committed to the energy transition and have founded the Swiss H2 Generation Corporation. The goal of the Swiss H2 Generation is the generation of renewable hydrogen for CO2-neutral mobility, industry and the storage of renewable energy.

Hydrogen energy is 100% renewable and emission-free when produced by green electricity electrolysis. With the same mass, hydrogen contains up to three times more energy than diesel and two and a half times more than natural gas. These specific features make the energy source a real solution to the challenges of the energy transition. Swiss H2 Generation invests in the environmentally friendly production of hydrogen starting around the end of 2020 near the dam of Schiffenen.

Three major uses of hydrogen are CO2-neutral mobility, industry and, at a later stage, the storage of renewable energy for subsequent conversion into heat or electricity. Swiss H2 Generation will provide top solutions in these three market segments. The technologies of production and use of hydrogen are ready for application today, the regulations and the procedures ensure a perfect risk control.

For ENGIE Services AG, the merger with Groupe E as a partner is an opportunity as the company operates renewable energy production facilities. Groupe E brings with it its 100 years of experience in the production process of hydropower and its groundbreaking activity in the field of renewable energy. ENGIE Services AG has in-depth experience in the field of hydrogen production. For example, in June 2017, ENGIE France opened its first site in Vannes, Morbihan, Morbihan, for the production, storage, and recharging of the hydrogen-powered vehicle fleet of its customer Morbihan Energies.

Swiss H2 Generation operates in the field of climate-friendly and environmentally friendly hydrogen. The joint venture company, based in Granges-Paccot, is equally owned by Groupe E SA and ENGIE Services AG. The Competition Commission still has to agree to the incorporation.
