TOKYO — Japan’s Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings (TEPCO) said on Friday that they will it will team up with a subsidiary of JXTG Holdings Inc. to start producing hydrogen fuel by 2020.
They plan to build one of the world’s largest hydrogen stations in Tokyo. The new facility will be capable of supplying hydrogen to about 290 fuel-cell cars and buses a day.
TEPCO Fuel & Power, an affiliate of TEPCO, and JXTG Energy, a unit of JXTG, will construct the hydrogen station, with a capacity of 600 normal cubic meters per hour, at TEPCO’s dormant thermal power plant in Tokyo, before the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
JERA Co., an energy joint venture it set up with Chubu Electric Power Co., in April plant to take over the hydrogen business next month.
