The Renewable Hydrogen Coalition promotes the critical role of renewable hydrogen to deliver the EU’s long-term decarbonisation goals. The Coalition is the voice of a high-level and interdisciplinary network of start-ups, investors, entrepreneurs, innovative companies and industrial off-takers all dedicated to making Europe the global leader in renewable hydrogen solutions.

H2 Green Steel is working on producing green steel, reducing CO₂ emissions with up to 95 percent compared to traditional steelmaking. By replacing coal with green hydrogen powered by fossil-free electricity, water and heat become our primary emissions.

Today we joined the Renewable Hydrogen Coalition, our purpose is to decarbonize hard-to-abate industries. We are starting with steel, but other industries must transform too. In several, the key to sustainable change is hydrogen produced from renewable electricity.”

Henrick Henriksson, CEO of H2 Green Steel said, “In some sectors, renewable hydrogen is the only known way to decarbonise. Steel is one example, responsible for 7-9 percent of global CO2 emissions. With green hydrogen, we will produce green steel with up to 95 percent lower emissions. Europe has a chance to lead the way and push other parts of the world to follow. That is why we are joining the Renewable Hydrogen Coalition.

“Climate change is a problem that needs to be addressed globally. However, in many areas, Europe could lead the way. It is both an opportunity to show others what is possible, and a responsibility to push others to speed up. For Europe to be a frontrunner in renewable hydrogen, a harmonized European definition on what can be claimed fully renewable hydrogen is needed. We believe the EU should adopt the delegated act for – Renewable Fuels of Non- Biological Origins, as quickly as possible. It would be the clear signal that European industry is asking for and what it needs to further accelerate the sustainable transformation of heavy industry.”
