Solar Power Europe Joins ECHA

SolarPower Europe has joined the European Clean Hydrogen Alliance, an initiative recently launched by the European Commission.

On 8 July, the European Commission launched its EU Hydrogen Strategy, which recognised the fundamental role of renewable-based hydrogen production as the cleanest solution to support the EU’s twin objectives: reading climate neutrality by 2050, and driving Europe’s industrial leadership in clean energy technologies.

To this end, the Commission launched the European Clean Hydrogen Alliance, which will support the development of a clean and globally-competitive hydrogen industry in Europe. The Alliance brings together key stakeholders from energy companies, industries, Member State governments, and civil society.

Walburga Hemetberger, CEO of SolarPower Europe, commented “Renewable hydrogen is the missing link to achieve the full decarbonation of hard-to-abate sectors. As the lowest-cost, most versatile and job-intensive energy technology, solar is primed to play a key role in bringing about a clean and competitive European hydrogen industry.”

Hemetsberger added: “In the past months, SolarPower Europe has been at the forefront of promoting renewable electricity-based hydrogen. Together with our colleagues from WindEurope, we have initiated the “Choose Renewable campaign”, gathering over 20 major European utilities and renewable companies and successfully steering the adoption of a climate-proof hydrogen strategy. We are thus excited to join the European Clean Hydrogen Alliance and look forward to contributing to its success.”
